Since 2007, Kazuo Ishiguro, the Nobel Prize–winning author of Klara and the Sun and Never Let Me Go, has written song lyrics for platinum vocalist Stacey Kent. In In 2024, the collaboration was taken further with the publication of Ishiguro’s book The Summer We Crossed Europe in the Rain: Lyrics for Stacey Kent, a collection of 16 songs featuring lyrics that are infused with a sense of yearning, melancholy, love, and the romance of travel and liminal spaces.
This special project features the songs from Ishiguro’s book performed live, with musical accompaniment by acclaimed saxophonist Jim Tomlinson, who set the lyrics to music, and jazz pianist Art Harihara, presenting an exquisite coming together of the literary and musical worlds. Further exploring the notion of collaboration and interpretation, the program will also feature illustrations from the book by acclaimed Italian artist Bianca Bagnarelli, whose work perfectly captures the atmosphere and sensibility of the songs.
